Wikinomics review
March 26th, 2008 | by David |Wow, it took me a long time to get through Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything . It was really just one chapter that slowed me down but that chapter (The New Alexandrians) felt like reading through black tar. I do recommend that you read this book just don’t expect to knock it out in one night.
There is a paragraph near the end of the book that I feel summarizes the points of the book pretty well:
Engaging in collaborative communities means ceding some control, sharing responsibility, embracing transparency, managing conflict, and accepting that successful projects will take on a life of their own. This means learning new skill sets that emphasize building trust, honoring commitments, changing dynamically, and sharing decision making with peers.
I have embraced collaboration at work and am working on swaying my peers and organization to open up to the concept. It’s easy to give lip service and say "we act collaboratively" or "we support collaboration", but its easy, very easy to see through that and identify what is genuine and what is not.
